at 8:45 for the public memorial in san jose. as you can see the sheriff deputies are gathering here and the motorcade is expected to be more than a mile long. a tribute to detective sergeant loran "butch" baker and elizabeth butler killed in the line of duty on february 26 by an armed suspect. the officers' flagged drape cassettes were part of a public viewing with hundreds of mourners coming to pay their respects and the officers who protected and served their community for years. >> our first time the local officers have been killed. it is tell. >> i am here to pay respects and it is good thing that people will come down here and support the local police officers. >> public viewing sites are here to view the memorial. kaiser permanente will open at 10:00 a.m. showing the service rise and parking at depot park will be freed. santa cruz fire departments will be staging their hook-and-ladder trucks along all overpasses between santa cruz and san jose. mostly on highway 17 and on highway 85. it should be a moving sight. >> cornell, thank you. the memorial service will be hell at h.p.

to san jose. we are in san grows -- we start with claudine in santa cruz. >> reporter: we are standing at the start of the procession. the folks told to gather here starting about seven this morning and in the last several minutes we have seen activity. take a look to the side of me. you can see three buses that are lined up along this street. they have the santa cruz police emblem on them and a sign. we assume possibly members of the department will ride these buses down the procession. i want to show you what's happening in this parking lot just near the boardwalk here. you can see motor officers starting to line up their motorcycles. they will stage there and then move to the start of the procession. this procession, ready to leave about 8:45 but everybody was told to gather about seven this morning so it'll just get busier. the morning has started in this community. everybody is still trying to dumb to terms with the loss of the two officers. there was a memorial last night at the santa cruz memorial funeral home. just a chance for people, friends, family, strangers to come. there

to highway 87 and finally here, downtown san jose. along the route, other agencies and ordinary citizens stopped to pay tribute. tim shea made it a point to step up on the rail of the highway 17 overpass to hold up a sign honoring the only two santa cruz police officers to ever be killed in the line of duty. >> i'm just a regular guy trying to do something, you know? i do this kind of stuff because it makes me sleep better at night, regular guy, standing on the bridge, giving them a salute. >> reporter: how are the families doing? >> you know, they're doing incredibly well given the circumstances. they're on an emotional roller coaster right now. but for us, all we can do is surround them with love, caring and support and show them that by how we honor them today in this memorial service. but then again, how we honor their legacy in how we behave and how we conduct ourselves with the community in the future. >> reporter: as you're looking down autumn street in front of the hp pavilion, you get a sense of just how many people from law enforcement are here. they're not just from santa cruz

in san jose. right now back to you, john and marla. >> we have an update to breaking news from san francisco. christie smith joins us from the bay view district where a swat situation is under way. what are you learning? >> reporter: good morning. the swat situation seems to be ramping up. within the last minute or two more p police officers have arrived in plain clothes and went into the crime scene. you can see them moving under the police tape now. we are hearing that this is a swat situation. started a couple of hours ago. we are on generaljennings and underwood. there is at least one suspect inside a builder here. it started with a pursuit of a robbery suspect, possibly the robbery of a medical marijuana facility that at least two, maybe three are in custody and one possibly more still outstanding. we are hearing that the outstanding suspect or suspects the perimeter keeps getting larger and larger. the perimeter is quite right and more officers are arriving on the scene. we get an update from san francisco police and we'll let you know what they have to say for now. reporting

that made driving difficult and dangerous. >> shut down san jose international if a couple of hours early this morning and it is still causing delays at sfo. >> well start with live doppler 7 hd and you can see that fog is still thickest along the coast and sitting over the bay area. that is the key, the cooler water, the air does not rise off the cooler water so we are seeing the fog. we see the land in emeryville right now just if the last five minutes start to clear and the same thing as we look at the bay bridge, here, at least coming to the toll plaza and here, looking from emeryville you can see most of the fog sitting right on top of the water but because there is a breeze out there, the air is rising and pulls in the cooler air from over the bay so one or two of the fingers of fog moves ashore but mostly we are quiet in the south bay, this is 87, near h.p. pavillion and san jose is the first to clear out of the east bay valley never had the fog and north bay is cleared now. in the last five minutes oakland has gone from 1.5 mile to three miles and sfo from quarter-mile visibility
